Taekwondo vs. Successful Online Business

My son has been a member of the ITA (which is a type of Tae Kwon Do) for several years.  The students start each class by reciting the 7 Tenets (or Principles) of Tae Kwon Do, which are:

  1. Honor
  2. Courtesy
  3. Integrity
  4. Perseverence
  5. Self-Control
  6. Courage
  7. Community

Can you see a correlation between having the driving tenets of TaeKwonDo lead you in life – and in your business?

Here's a more thorough explanation of each of the tenets….

Honor is nobility of mind and maintenance of one's personal dignities in the face of adversities. Honor is the gift you give yourself.

Courtesy is the thoughtfulness and consideration of others. Humility, civility, and politeness.

Integrity is the uncompromising adherence to a code of moral values and principles. It requires soundness of ethical strength.

Perseverance is the steadfast pursuit of one's goals. The quality of never giving up in the face of a challenge.

Self-Control is the restraint of one's emotions and reactions. Control comes from within rather than from outside forces.

Courage is the spirit which enables one to face danger with self-possession, confidence, and resolution. Courage consists of a reserve of moral strength on which one may draw in time of emergency. A courageous person will not tolerate injustice.

Community is the responsibility to contribute to society, regardless of one's position in life. Civic accountability requires us to do our share and to be part of the solution of society's problems. Remember: Every right implies a responsibility; every opportunity an obligation; every possession a duty.

Do you think that actively working to enhance those 7 characteristics in yourself would lead you to greater happiness and success? Me, too.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

  • Which of the traits above do you respect and admire most in others that are in business?
  • Which of the tenets do you struggle most with? How can we help?
  • Is anything missing?

Looking forward to your thoughts and a great discussion.

Warmly,
Nicole

I have a really hard time picking the trait I admire most, I aspire to get better at all of them and think they are all crucial to business success. I can tell you the one I have the most trouble with – Perseverence …. I often know exactly what I should be doing, but don’t always sit down and get it done. Off to go do something that I know will help me grow my business right now (in this case write and submit an article).

Looks like we should encourage Internet Marketers to to practice TaeKwonDo eh?

    And let’s add

    (1) hold the hype!!
    (2) no forced or hidden continuity
    (3) no bogus limits on electronic downloads
    (4) prices displayed clearly on the sales page (Duh!)
    (5) anybody else want to add ?

    🙂
