Online Success Cast #4: Shannon Cherry

I recently had the opportunity to meet Shannon Cherry at Ken McArthur's IMPACT event. She was an expert panelist, on stage with many of the superstars of Internet Marketing.

We'd crossed paths quite a bit over the last few years, but hadn't had much opportunity to talk. So, I was really looking forward to sitting down to chat in person (drink some wine… eat some sushi…  sing karaoke… ) and we did all that and more – and there are videos to prove it.

Shannon is a very strong personality, and I immediately discovered that there's a huge heart under that. I tried to come up with a good way to describe her but was struggling, so I asked my friend Tracy for help.

We decided that Shannon is “smart as heck and snarky-sweet with a twist of sass (after all she IS a red-head)“.  We hit it off immediately.

ok, enough mooshy stuff. Here's Shannon's bio – so you understand WHY I had her on the show beyond “I like her”:

This comment, “Shannon is a very strong personality…”, is total proof of the old saw, “It takes one to know one.”

Perhaps the most important thing regarding your meeting and burgeoning friendship with Shannon Cherry is the fact that you met her–in real life–at a live event.

Yes, knowing people online through forums, SM sites, email and Skype chats is good but actually physically meeting and looking someone in the eye is great.

A handshake, a hug and real, wide-ranging, conversation is priceless. (Apologies to MC)

BTW, the podcast is excellent. Shannon’s candid replies to your questions and her generous elaboration is very useful to anyone looking to take their business to the next level.

    Well done Nicole and Shannon!

P.S. Elmer’s comment wasn’t here when I posted mine. I didn’t copy his use of the word “priceless” – honest!

    Great comments, Elmer. 🙂

Just lost my entire post that I put here. Oh well..recently I have just gone for things whether I thought I was ready to do it or not. Nicole you have been instrumental in me doing that. I know I can always go back and change things but if I don’t make any progress, I’ll go now where.

Thanks ladies for a great podcast.

Both Nicole and I know you’re not a rotten, no good, bottom feeding plagiarist.

We also know you do have original thoughts.

However since others may not know this the disclaimer was appropriate. 🙂

Hi Nicole and thanks for taking the time to interview Shannon. I enjoyed the interview very much and liked the union/fusion of PR and online money making.

A few years ago, I created a site that catered to Good News articles from various sources. Not knowing how to generate traffic to the site, I sent out a bunch of “press releases” to local media outlets in my city. Radio stations, news papers, anything I could think of.

Later on that afternoon I received a call from a popular local talk radio station asking me if I would like to be interviewed that night in regards to my site. Of course I jumped at the chance and later that night I was being broadcast-ed into hundreds of thousands of listeners homes. The interview lasted a half hour and it was really fun.

The next day I eagerly checked my stats to see how much traffic that interview brought in…and to my surprise I maybe had a few more hits than usual but nothing big at all. But that was ok, because I took action and can’t be faulted for that…:) I closed the site about a year later after realizing that even though people talk about wanting only to hear good news, the reality is that bad news sells and catches a readers interest much more than good news. A lesson learned!

I am in the process of starting a new site that will definitely find myself sending off press releases for the launch…:)

Thanks again Nicole and if I may be so bold…I love listening to your interviews for what is learned but also for your voice, which I find very sweet…:) Take care and all the best.

    Hi Nicole,

This is the first time I have visited your blog. I came across your name because I am a big fan of Jimmy D. Brown and I figure if he has hired you to run his affiliate program and he trusts you with his business then I should check out what you have to offer.

The podcast was very informative and I appreciate that you made it available. That’s one of the beautiful things about the internet. There are many people who have skills that I don’t and being able to learn from things like this podcast make the learning curve a lot less difficult.

    Thanks

    Rick

Great interview . . . lots of nuggets! There were several nuggets I immediately adopted: Be “YOU” and don’t mimic someone else; create your own “secret sauce” and make it your own; have a business plan AND a marketing plan to help you stay focused and get more accomplished; and don’t waste time trying to make it perfect . . . just do it and “if you do it wrong, just do it strongly”.

    What I’ve learned:

    A platform is paramount.
    Be Yourself.
    Find what works for you.
