Motivational Monday! Excuses suck
Hey guys. I've decided to start a new series called “Motivational Monday” and I hope you like it.
These will all be things to help you to be more successful in your business, and in your personal life.
Today is about excuses and how they suck.
- Excuses suck energy.
- Excuses suck self-esteem.
- Excuses suck time.
- They give you nothing goodย in return.
Watch this video and then tell me if your excuses for why you “can't” do something are valid or not. I have a feeling this will put things into perspective. It did for me.
(Thanks to Danielle Miller, for letting me know about this!)
Let's translate this to business.
- I can't do an interview because…
- I can't write an article because …
- I can't find 10 minutes to exercise and participate in the Fat Loss Quickie Challenge, because…
I say BALONEY! BALONEY on you!
But, I say it with love. ๐
Today, I challenge you to look at the excuses that are holding you back and really challenge them. Are they valid? In most cases, no, they aren't. So, get over them already and move closer to your goals!
Let me know what you think about this new feature. ๐
((hugs)) and high fives!
Nicole
PS. After I decided to do this Motivational Monday thing, I started to look for keywords. It appears that I'm not unique in this idea at all. However, since I'm in the “no excuses” mode, I'm doing it anyway, just because it'll be FUN and I know you guys will really benefit from it as much as I will.
PS again. For those doing theย Fat Loss Quickie Challenge with me, this is also for you. No excuses today. I know it's a holiday, but we can still find 10 stinkin' minutes to take care of ourselves, right? You can't take care of anyone if you're unhealthy, so take care of you!ย Or as I say to my friends and the people I care about, of which you are one.ย “Please take care of my friend.”

September 7, 2009 at 7:12 amI love Motivation Monday’s. It’s a great way to start the week.
Here’s what sucks about excuses… You are the only one that is holding yourself back from success. You are doing the damage to yourself. You set a goal and then you throw a giant mountain in front of it. No one else is to blame but yourself.
No more excuses!
There’s always someone out there who is much worse off than you and faced greater challenges than you, yet they didn’t allow their ‘limitations’ to ‘limit’ them. They were willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their goals and become the best person that they could be.
“My feet hurt”… what a way to end that video.
Don’t be afraid to list your excuses… but right next to your excuses, write out what you are going to do about it.
It all boils down to personal responsibility. Becoming responsible for your actions and the situation that you may be in. This is an empowering lesson when you realize that you are the one responsible for your current state. If you got yourself there, you can get out of it as well and move in a positive direction.
ROCK on Nicole. The energy levels and passion in your writing is off the charts!

September 7, 2009 at 6:42 pmAmen, my friend.
I, for one, am counting my blessings, rather than my excuses.

September 7, 2009 at 9:23 amI love the video, Nicole, although i don’t agree with the excuse “mom won’t let me.”
as a mom, I’m leaning towards that’s a good one lol. ๐
but overall the video was very motivational!
Awesome!!!!

Yeah, I noticed that, too! Good call. ๐

September 7, 2009 at 10:16 amHey Nicole and all –
Love Love Love the Motivational Monday idea! Also loved the video. Although, I, too, agree with “Mom won’t let me” comment Brigitte and Nicole. Not a wise thing to ignore Momma’s rules. ๐
I think Motivational Monday is an awesome tool to use to get the week off to a good start.
(“The kitchen floor’s too cold”… That’s an old joke from years ago. Makes as much sense as any of them, eh?)

September 7, 2009 at 6:44 pmI love in the Sound of Music when the little Greta says she can’t sing because “my finger hurts”. ๐

September 7, 2009 at 11:55 amThis is a great new category/topic for your blog! I love it! Wendy (eMom) used to do something similar and it was a great start to the week!
Loved the video, too – although I could see it coming. His movements were so smooth. But Scott’s right – ‘my feet hurt’ – had a great impact!
And yes – he even said, ‘my head hurts’. Oh no, he didn’t say that one. No. Bummer. LOL Examining my excuses to see which ones are valid is a great (awful) exercise to do – and even though migraines are nothing to mess with – I know on some of the days, there are some actions that I can take to help the situation and get around it and I don’t always choose to do so. (ack – major run-on sentence there.)

September 8, 2009 at 12:12 amMonday tends to be that day that I need a little extra motivation. This is a good way to get rid of that case of the Mondays ๐

September 9, 2009 at 2:39 pmGreat advice and insight. I came to the conclusion awhile back that excuses suck. Now when I’m feeling like I can’t do something… I make myself realize it isn’t that I can’t… it’s that, for whatever reason, I don’t want to. Then I have to examine why I don’t want to. What’s making me come up with the excuse in the first place. It seems easier to get around the “can’t” mind set when I know what is behind it.

September 9, 2009 at 3:18 pmI’m likin that way of thinking… “examining why I don’t want to.” Or if you want to… why don’t I want it bad enough?

September 11, 2009 at 7:08 amOoh, I got one!
“Nicole makes it look too easy.”
Still no good, huh??
There’s a kick in the head: “examining why I don’t want to.” Or if you want to…”why don’t I want it enough?”

September 11, 2009 at 7:38 amHopefully not a kick in the head, hopefully a kick in the butt!

October 2, 2009 at 9:45 pmThank you for offering Motivational Mondays. I’ve heard you say a few times that as a virtual business owner you have to find online friends to vent to. I think I’ve found my spot right here.
Keep up the good work.

January 10, 2011 at 8:46 pmThis is a good topic for this time of year especially. So many of us make new resolutions -or are they new?
How many of us are still working on the ones we didn’t get around to achieving last year and maybe even the year before that?
WHY? too many excuses!
