Good morning!

When I was at NAMS in Atlanta last month, I realized something rather disturbing. Several of the beginners there were purchasing a new hosting account every time they bought a new domain (URL).

eek! So, while that's not a big deal when you're actually making money, several of these ladies hadn't earned their first affiliate check yet, but were paying quite a bit to host their handful of accounts each month. (Some as much as $50 or more per month.)

That was only part of the problem. I do a lot of one-on-one brainstorming at NAMS. And, several times, I'd be brainstorming with one of the attendees and we'd discover their potentially biggest profit, their passion, and their target niche was something other than what they were working on. The more excited I got for their new business model, the more I saw their eyes start to veil over, as if something was worrying them.

After probing a bit, I figured out that they were thinking “another monthly payment… adding more to my monthly expenses” and they were worried about that. Heck, I would be, too! So, this missing piece for them was costing them FUTURE profits, too. OUCH.

Here's the thing. Once you have an unlimited hosting account (for under $15), then you don't have to buy a new one each time you purchase a new domain! You just ADD that new URL to your hosting and it works exactly the same.

If you're using ReliableWebs.com – all you do is contact support and let them know about your new domain. They'll set it up for you and send you an email with your new logins – no charge at all for this service.

If you're using HostGator.com or one of the other popular web hosts, it's a bit trickier, but they do have training on their website to show you how to do it.

I know many of you already know this, and I'd assumed that it was common knowledge, but I was wrong. So, I hope this saves some of you some money and helps you to see profits faster by reducing your monthly expenses.

To recap: To add a new website or blog…

Purchase the domain name.

If you haven't already, upgrade your webhosting to include multiple accounts for only a few dollars more.

Add that new domain to your existing hosting.

Add your blog like you normally would – just make SURE you're in the right folder if you use HostGator. If you're using ReliableWebs.com this part is super-easy.

Then you're up and running!

I hope this was helpful to everyone paying too much for web hosting.

Nicole

PS. I'd love to have you join us at NAMS <- please check it out.

Yesterday, I woke up to find that two of my hosting accounts had been cancelled by paypal during the night. (Don't ask. Grrrr…) I guess paypal is doing some security updates and it's messing with some people's subscriptions. A few of my clients are ripping their hair out (understandably) as they are losing subscribers left and right. (And, yes, I nearly had a panic attack over it. Thank God for wine!)

I digress. Anyway, needless to say, I freaked…. a little. I contacted paypal and then I put in a support ticket to my most favorite-est hosting company in the world explaining the situation. I immediately got a response from the owner, saying

“Hello Nicole,Thanks for letting us know.Your account will not be affected. We will wait until the situation is resolved. Bear in mind that we may need to resend a subscription notice to re-enable your payments.”

Have I MENTIONED how much I love their hosting? As someone who has been through the many layers of Dante's hosting hell… it is such a relief to have finally found the hosting company of my dreams.

I hadn't planned to gush, but a few minutes ago, I had another positive encounter with my host. I had moved a website from another host to this same place as part of a JV. We were having troubles logging in to FrontPage. My JV partner contacted them and our issue was resolved in MINUTES. ((sigh of relief))

Business is stressful enough. It sure helps when someone is actually on your side and understands customer support.

That's my gush. If you want to find out who I recommend for Web Hosting, you can read more about that AND my previous hosting hell experiences here

Affordable Hosting

Have a great day!
Nicole

One of my coaching clients asked this question:

Nicole, How to you know what your webstats mean? You keep saying they are important, but it looks like a bunch of junk to me!

Here's my reply:

Your stats are EXTREMELY helpful to showing you what is currently working on your website. I would prefer to invest my time in that which is already bringing me money rather than spinning my wheels. Wouldn't you?

Assuming you are hosting your own website (at a place like I recommend at MomWebs.com/ ) You'll find your stats in the cpanel. This can be found by typing in your URL and adding /cpanel to the end. (Like http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel — of course “your domain” would be replaced with your actual domain) You'll have to have your login info, of course, which you were given when you signed up for hosting.

From there, you'll go to “stats” of course. I like to view “awstats” from the options listed.

You'll have several sections to go through. However, the most important ones to me are:

Referrers: Look at who is sending you traffic and network with those people. Offer to send them unique content or work out deals. They are already interested in you so this is gold. Even if you do nothing but touch base and offer them a copy of your free ebook and let them know where they can find your free reprint articles, it's worthwhile.

Search Engine Keywords and Keyphrases: This shows you what you should write more about. It's not only what people are looking for, but it's what you're naturally ranking for. Use this for ideas to add more articles or blog posts to your website.

Popular Pages: This shows you 1. What pages you need to monetize better (since they are getting traffic) and 2. What people are looking for when they visit your site. So, give them more of what they want and lay out those pages better so you get better financial results.

That's the QUICKIE version of what your stats can offer you. Please post questions below and I'll do my best to help!

Nicole

If you've been online for more than a minute, you've likely experienced Web Hosting Hell. If not, you are so lucky and I want to rub your head so I can be that lucky too!

I've had web hosting hell. The kind that makes you just shake with frustration, while panicking at the same time.

I've been through a lot of hosting companies in my time and have put together a list of things I look for when looking for a good web-host.

You can read them here – MomWebs.com/ — In case you were wondering, no, I don't have my own hosting company. Web hosting is not the kind of business you run as a hobby — not when people's businesses are at stake.

Enjoy!
