Friday is the “freebie” day where I give you free content that you can use on your blog. Hurray!

Today, I'd like to talk videos. Did you know that it's super-easy to embed YouTube videos onto your blog? That didn't use to be the case.

While, I don't want to encourage you to add video just to add video, it can certainly add value IF you can find a channel with helpful, expert videos (like mine – hint hint). If so, you should do it!

<del>Here's how easy it is:</del> (Actually, it just got easier. See below this video.)

The new easier way that was brought to my attention by Scott of Scott J. Smith is below.

View the rest of this post here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Embeds

So with that method, you just copy and paste the URL of any YouTube video or Vimeo video into your blog and then make sure it's on it's one line.

I tried it, of course, before I posted here. It works.

If you'd like to grab ANY of my YouTube videos, you can get them here:

Nicole Dean's Awesome YouTube Channel <- Click there to grab videos

Or, if you're in a different niche, then look around and find some videos that your blog visitors will love!

I hope you've enjoyed this “Free Blog Content” Friday. I know I have! If you'd like, please share your YouTube channel in your comment below – to encourage my readers to embed your videos.

Thanks, as always, for another wonderful week of fun.

Warmly,
Nicole

In the meantime, though… I received a phishing email today that almost got me (and I'm a pretty tough nut to crack). Since I ended up looking it up, I wanted to warn you about it so you didn't fall for it. Man, they are sneaky little crooks.

Here it is…

Sbj: Inaccurate whois information.

Dear user,

On Wed, 29 Oct 2008 14:53:24 +0100 we received a third party complaint of invalid domain contact information in the Whois database for this domain Whenever we receive a complaint, we are required by ICANN regulations to initiate an investigation as to whether the contact data displaying in the Whois database is valid data or not. If we find that there is invalid or missing data, we contact both the registrant and the account holder and inform them to update the information.

The contact information for the domain which displayed in the Whois database was indeed invalid. On Wed, 29 Oct 2008 14:53:24 +0100 we sent a notice to you at the admin/tech contact email address and the account email address informing you of invalid data in breach of the domain registration agreement and advising you to update the information or risk cancellation of the domain. The contact information was not updated within the specified period of time and we canceled the domain. The domain has subsequently been purchased by another party. You will need to contact them for any further inquiries regarding the domain.

PLEASE VERIFY YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION – http://www.enom.com

If you find any invalid contact information for this domain, please respond to this email with evidence of the specific contact information you have found to be invalid on the Whois record for the domain name. Examples would be a bounced email or returned postal mail. If you have a bounced email, please attach or forward with your reply or in the case of returned postal mail, scan the returned letter and attach to your email reply or please send it to:

Attn: Domain Services 14455 N Hayden Rd Suite 219 Scottsdale, AZ 85260

LINK TO CHANGE INFORMATION – http://www.enom.com

Thank you,
Domain Services

[IncidentID:65257]

Do NOT. I repeat Do NOT click on the link and enter your information. If you get a message like this, hold your mouse pointer over the link and look on the bottom left corner of your screen. The link and what shows up are not the same. In this one, the URL was actually enom.com.com92.biz (not enom.com).

If you're ever concerned about your domain registration, contact your registrar directly by typing in the URL into your browser.

I hope this helps save someone some headaches.

Warmly,
Nicole

Hey guys. I recently signed up for a unique giveaway and wanted to let you know about it, too. (Yes, it's free.)

If you're unfamiliar with using Giveaways as a traffic generator, then this will be something pretty cool.

There are two factors at work here that you can benefit from.

1. You sign up as a Contributor to get exposure for yourself from everyone who signs up for the freebies. This could be thousands of eyeballs on your name and your URL.
AND… in this instance..
2. Your contribution is a rebrandable download that everyone who downloads it can REDISTRIBUTE it.

I'll certainly let you know when all of the freebies are available for download so you can load up on freebies. However, right now, they are only looking for contributors. So, if you have a brandable item (an ebook or free report) that you'd like to get circulating more, this is a great opportunity to do so.

I just wish I could sign up more than once!

Anyway, check out the page to see the details: Viral Brandable Giveaway < — click here.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Nicole

Questions:
1. Why would I give something away?
You'd give away a pdf document that presells your other products and links to them. That way, everyone who downloads your free gift will have the opportunity to learn more about you and your products or services.

2. How do I make a document brandable?
I use Viral PDF

3. What if I don't have a giveaway item?
Well, I'd suggest you make one. You can hire a writer or even start with a PLR product and edit it to make it your own. (If that's in the allowable rules.)

Here's the link again: Viral Brandable Giveaway < — click here.

Just read your blog post about doubling your income in 2008, and I'm responding to it at the site, but was wondering…

Can I use affiliate links in my posts?

Also, can I sign it with my name and website URL, or do I leave it without a signature and let the automation within the blog post insert that information?

Once I figure out the benefits to responding to your posts (other than to encourage you, which is very important in and of itself), I'll know how much time I should allot to reading and responding to various posts.

Thanks for sending out your notice today letting me know about your “double your income” blog post. It was good to read.

And, my reply…

Hi! The common etiquette of blog commenting is not to include links in the comment itself unless they are resource links (and even then only one if you have to). Otherwise, even if the post is not deleted, people start rolling their eyes. lol.

Blog commenting has three functions:

networking

eyeballs on your link/click throughs

search engines

So, in commenting and including your link in the URL field, you're accomplishing two of those. The click throughs normally come as you network — and based upon the quality of your comment.

I normally tell my coaching clients to find three blogs that are in their niche that have the “do follow” tags installed and post comments to one or more daily if they have time. If not, then less is good, too. But, I'd prefer you follow 3 blogs daily than run around looking for a bunch. That way people will see your name repeatedly.

BUT.. as long as you're getting incoming links on a daily basis in some form, it doesn't matter if it's blog commenting, article writing, press releases, contest sponsors, etc. You're moving ahead.

Just keep on doing a little bit every day and you'll be farther ahead every day than you were the day before.

Now get back to work!

I've been a twitter-slacker.
1. No time to learn something new.

2. No time to “chat” all day.

Well… I think I was a bit short-sighted on both fronts, because I started to see a bunch of Twitter traffic in my web stats from others talking about me.

So… I just joined Twitter (it's free) and I already love it. It's a fun way to let others know about what you're working on and just take a little coffee/sanity break during the day.

If you'd like to join Twitter and keep up with me, I'd be more than happy to have you. Here's my link…

http://twitter.com/nicoledean

Join me?

PS. If you're twittering, please post your URL below, as well.
