This is an important update provide to me by Regina Smola, my dear friend who is a Computer Security Expert. (Update has been tweaked by me to clarify a few things for you.)

The News: If you get a link in Skype from a FRIEND that you KNOW or FAMILY member that looks like the screenshot below – DO NOT CLICK IT. Please read to protect yourself.

Skype Virus Alert- Spread through Links from Family & Friends

I use Skype on a daily basis to communicate not only with friends, but also clients and important business connections.

But unfortunately, there are reports that a virus is spreading through Skype.

Your business associates, or even a family member can accidentally (and unknowingly) send you a link that infects your computer. That's exactly what is happening. On October 8, 2012 a new virus affecting Skype users was discovered and it's being reported all over the Web, including CNET, and Mashable.

Your legitimate contacts are not sending those links to you on purpose. It is very likely they they have been infected, and that they have no control whatsoever over their system. In fact, it's possible that their computer is even being held under virtual lock-and-key for monetary ransom.

How Do you Get The Virus?

As of October 8th 2012, people have been allegedly receiving automated messages from what appear to be automated bots (Dorkbot Worm) with the socially-engineered message: ” Lol is this your new profile pic?” with a link to what might appear to be a legitimate zipped image. (see image)

This bot is very clever and spreads through a few computers to begin with, and then automatically targeted contacts in the infected user's Skype contact list. As these contacts receive the automated messages, many of them wouldn't think twice about opening the link because they are receiving the message and link from an established (possible credible) contact on their “friend” list.

If you click the provided link, you would download a .zip file. Upon opening the zip file, an executable file could infect your computer.

To many people, this would be a sign that something is wrong; however if you have extracted the file and your Anti-Virus system hasn't kicked in and blocked the file, or it is a zero-day attack (no cure has been discovered yet), it is likely too late.

The link being circulated is also socially-engineered to fool users into thinking that it is legitimate. The structure is as follows:

(link not clickable for your protection.)

Looking at the structure of the link, we first see that the URL appears to be a Google shortlink. Then we see some random numbers and letters in an alphanumeric format, which is characteristic of any typical link. The most socially-engineered part of the link is that the final portion appears to be an image (img), and also implies that the image (img) has something to do with the user in question (in this case, John Smith). This can easily fool even the most seasoned user into thinking that the link is legitimate.

What does the Virus Do?

This virus is commonly known as “ransomware.” It essentially holds the victim's computer hostage until the victim agrees to pay a fee of $200 to access his/her (now locked) filesystem within 48 hours.

Obviously this means that the perpetrator has full access to not only the victim's personal files, but also any saved passwords the victim may have stored in their system. The malware (Worm Virus) has a multi-tasking feature designed to specifically steal usernames and passwords to social networking sites and PayPal accounts.

And to take it even further, this multi-tasking virus turns infected servers into “botnet” servers to perform DOS (denial of service) attacks on targeted websites, and continues to downloading further viruses on the (already infected) computer.

Once a user is infected, the virus will not only hijack the user's system and hold the files for ransom while stealing the user's passwords but will also begin to send similar messages over Skype to all people on the user's contact list in order to keep the virus circulating. Yes, you then spread the virus to your loved ones, as well.

How Can You Protect Yourself?

All Skype has said about this infection so far is that users need to –

keep Skype updated,

keep computer system updates that you should be regularly maintaining.

They also said not to click on any links that may look suspicious, even coming from your established contacts. (EVEN FROM YOUR OWN MOTHER!)

Are ugly ebooks and reports making you look less than professional? Ronnie Nijmeh has a solution (and you know how pretty HIS stuff is!) to share with you.

One of my recurring nightmares (other than finding out that I never really graduated high school because I missed a class) is that one of my customers will say to me “I bought your ebook and the information is good… but it's SO ugly that I almost returned it.”

OUCH!

My PDF's are NOT Pretty!

If you've followed my stuff for more than a minute, you KNOW that I am design-challenged. I do my best, and I hire good people, but I have always been jealous of my friend, Ronnie Nijmeh, for his “pretty” PLR that he releases and his pretty pdfs!

Mine are functional, and informative, but never… pretty.

The problem with ugly ebooks is that the perceived value is lower than another ebook that may be identical in content.

Yes, let me repeat that.

You may have the EXACT same quality content, BUT… if the competition LOOKS more professional – they seem to be WORTH more! (ouch again…)

Well, Ronnie came out with a new tool that knocks my socks off. So, we jumped on a webinar for a quick demo of it – simply because you can't really understand how easy it is to use – until you do watch it in motion.

I started counting and he had a PROFESSIONAL QUALITY report done by the time I got to “21 Mississippi's”.

You need to watch this if…

You're buying PLR but not using it.

You're publishing a newsletter but it's boring.

You're sending out free reports but they are BLAH.

You've got ebooks, but the covers are… ugly!

Or you're publishing on the Kindle but are struggling with the formatting.

You're a Virtual Assistant who helps people with any of the above.

You're an Affiliate Manager and your clients want to sell more stuff.

Hi! One of the questions I get asked frequently by InfoMarketers (bloggers, PLR sellers, Kindle authors, and other ebook authors) is about translation.

1. Should you do it?

2. What are the benefits?

3. Are there any special laws that you need to understand?

Here's a guest post from Christian Arno, the founder of Lingo 24 with some advice. Be sure to add your thoughts and share your questions (and experiences) in the comments area.

How to Tap into Non-English Markets

by Christian Arno of Lingo 24

The world wide web, as its very name implies, is a truly global phenomenon. The Internet has opened up vast new opportunities for small businesses and entrepreneurs, as the entire world is just a mouse-click away from parting with cash for your goods and/or services.

That's the theory at least. The Web does indeed offer glorious opportunities for those savvy enough to take advantage, but there's a little more involved than simply setting up your own little corner of cyberspace and waiting for the business to roll in.

Identify your markets

It's possible that you have a product or service with truly global appeal but, let's face it, whatever you're selling will in all likelihood be better received in some areas than others. Good market research will help reveal exactly where you can reasonably expect to make an impact and, even if you do have a global product, targeting a select number of markets will help keep your campaign focused, as well as simplifying processes such as website localization. One excellent tool for identifying keyword opportunities, and market gaps, in foreign markets is Google’s Global Market Finer, which presents the varying search volumes and PPC bid prices for keywords in countries around the world.

Localize your website

Making your website accessible is a must when trying to tap into non-English markets. English is still the single most commonly used language online and, as in the business world, it remains the lingua franca or common language of the Internet. Even so, it represents just under half of all online usage and studies have shown that multilingual users put more trust in sites in their own native language, especially when it comes to spending money online. A monolingual approach would clearly cut off huge swathes of potential customers.

Depending on the number of target markets and your realistic expectations of the returns you can expect from them, it may be enough to set up micro-sites or foreign language pages navigable from your main website. A fully localized website will be more expensive and time consuming to set up and maintain but will also give you the opportunity to invest in a country code Top Level Domain, such as .de for Germany or .fr for France. This will not only give your site a more ‘local', trustworthy feel but it will also boost your rankings on Google and other search engines, who use locality as one of the factors in their search algorithms.

The power of social networking

Social networking sites are not simply about playing Farmville or finding out what a casual acquaintance had for breakfast. They are about that in part, of course, but they can also be a useful marketing tool, and businesses both large and small are increasingly using these sites as part of their marketing armory. Businesses can directly engage with customers, helping to build brand loyalty. They can monitor the online conversation about their products and services, garner feedback and generally spread awareness of their products.

The bigger social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, do have global audiences, but it's worth bearing in mind that in some markets other local competitors rule the roost. In South Korea, for example, Cyworld is the market leader while Orkut is the most visited site in Brazil. It isn't essential but it may be worth checking the popular sites in your target market and maintaining a presence on those.

Translation issues

When crossing into non-English markets, the issue of translation is one of the most important things to consider. Your marketing and website content must all be translated and the quality of the translation will directly reflect on how your potential customers view you and your product. Automatic translation programs such as Google Translate and Yahoo! Babel Fish offer a cheap and easy way to get a literal translation, but they can be prone to contextual errors and this can leave your copy looking stilted and amateurish. Enlisting the aid of a native speaking translator will help catch any mistakes and will also bring cultural knowledge to the task.

When dealing with ebooks and electronic information, you also have to consider whether to actually translate the product itself or whether to try to market it to multilingual readers in its original form. Having even a short book translated can be a hefty undertaking and you should be sure that any fully translated work will actually have an audience before you start. For this kind of work, good quality translation is essential and only a skilled, native-speaking translator should be considered for the job.

Check publishing rights

Another issue when selling ebooks worldwide is that of publishing rights. Even ebooks in English cannot always be sold in different English speaking territories such as the United States, the UK and Australia. This is because publishers may be granted the rights to publish a piece of work only in certain, exclusive territories, meaning that a book to which you hold the US rights may not necessarily be able to be sold in the UK. This may apply whether the work is in print or electronic format and the issue can become even more tangled when dealing with translated versions. Put simply, ensure that you have the rights in place before selling an ebook anywhere.

There's undoubtedly a lot to consider when harnessing the Web to tap into non-English markets but, equally, there are massive potential rewards to be had if you're willing to put in the time and effort.

So, “Can you earn money from what you know?” Heck yeah! Whether you're a mom to twins or a minimalist, a golfer or a green thumb – the answer is yes!

Enjoy the post and then be sure to leave a comment to show Crissy some love.

Could You Earn Money From What You Know?
Guest post by Crissy Herron

Have you ever thought about all the things you are good at? Or all of the things you already know? If you haven't, this is a good time to start thinking about it! Why? Because there are people who want to know those very things – and they are willing to pay you to teach them!

What Kind Of Things Are You Good At?

Everyone is good at something – and you are no exception. In fact, you are probably good at many things!

Maybe you are good at a business related task, such as creating great newsletters or graphics. Or maybe you are really good at marketing? Just the fact that you have a business is a great start. There are many people who would love to learn how to create an online business!

Maybe your best skills are life related. Are you great at meal planning, saving money or throwing fantastic birthday parties?

Spend a few minutes and think about all of the things you know you're good at. The things that you love doing. These are the things that could be turned into a class!

Do Other People Really Want To Know This Stuff?

Simply put, yes, people want to learn what you know.

Now, to be honest, there are some skills that are going to be more in demand than others. You may be great at playing underwater frisbee. That doesn't mean that people are going to be jumping up and down to learn how to do that.

An easy way to find out what people do want to learn is by asking them! Yes, it's that simple! You are probably using Twitter or Facebook already. The next time you are on those sites, list a few of the topics you might like to teach and ask people to let you know which of those they are most interested in learning.

Use Them To Establish Life Long Customers

Holding an online class is a great way to build relationships with your customers. Depending on how you choose to deliver your class, you may be speaking with your students via phone or chatting live in a web room. They will get to know you more closely than if they were simply reading your blog or an ebook you wrote. This interaction is what will build a solid relationship. And once that relationship is built, those customers will be life-long customers!

Creating your own online class is a lot easier than you may think. It's also very affordable, as there are many free tools to help you, such as free conference lines and you can even find free web conference rooms (check out DimDim).

With so many benefits and reasons to get started, can you really think of one reason not to hold your own online class?

Would you like to learn more about
holding your own online class?

Crissy Herron, the author of this post, will be teaching a four week workshop that will walk you, step by step, through the process of creating your own class. By the time the workshop is over, you will be ready to enroll your own students!

Click Here for more information and to register.

I hope you enjoyed this guest blog post. I'll be back soon with more great stuff!

Warmly,
Nicole Dean

I'd like to welcome my friend, Susanne Myers to my blog. She's guest blogged here before and has been on my podcast. She's one of my best friends, so I gave her an open invite to log in and write — any time she has something to say.

By Guest Blogger Susanne Myers

I've been blogging a lot about niche marketing this week on my own blog and thought I'd share some thoughts on creating niche products with you over here at Nicole's blog as well.

I know it can seem a little intimidating to create your own information product, especially if you've never done it before. Here are three different ways to create niche products that are all very simple and straight forward.

Improve An Existing Product

I am mainly an affiliate marketer, but also have a few of my own products in various niches. One of those products in particular I created because the one I was promoting as an affiliate to begin with just wasn't the perfect fit for my audience. It was a decent ebook on freezer cooking, but focused too much on once a month cooking (I'm not that organized and don't care to cook 30 meals in one weekend), and didn't have enough recipes.

In this case I actually went through and looked at several freezer cooking cookbooks (both electronic and actual books) and combined the ideas that worked for me with some of my own “improvements”.

Let me be clear, I didn't just copy someone else's book (that would be VERY wrong), I just took some of the strategies and ideas and wrote my own content, along with plenty of ideas of my own. I added recipes in various categories and my own product was ready. It's been very well received, in part because it addresses a lot of the issues other books on the topic were lacking.

If you're not sure what affiliate products to start with for your niche if you are going this route, take a look at this blog post I wrote earlier today:

How To Find Affiliate Products For Your Niche

Interview Some Experts

If you don't consider yourself a write or don't feel like you are enough of an expert in a particular niche, just find some others and ask them if they would be available for a short interview.

You can do an email interview by sending them a series of questions and getting their replies.

If you prefer, you can also do this via your favorite Instant Messenger Service. While still being in writing, this adds the ability to do immediate followup questions during the interview.

With either option, copy and paste the questions and answers into a word document, clean it up a bit, add some graphics and a title page, turn it into a pdf and you have your own product.

Of course you can also do the interview via audio or video. I interviewed a good friend of mine earlier today using my phone and audio acrobat. I downloaded the recording and sent it off to get it transcribed. This transcript will become a pdf report with a little formatting. I may even add a few worksheets for a complete product bundle with report, audio and worksheets.

Instead of interviewing just one expert, you may want combine several into a full ebook, adding your own commentary and resources in between. With very little time and effort on your part, and without being an “expert” in your niche, you can quickly crate a multi-media product package.

(Pssst. Nicole here. You can contact me for interviews any time. Here's where: Contact Nicole Dean for Interviews)

Create A Series of Short Reports

This is something I'm working on right now and is very easy to do. You simply come up with a few short reports (10- 20 pages long) that are helpful for someone in your niche. Then you just start by writing one short report and putting it up for sale in the $10 range. Market your first report a bit and then start working on the second one. When it is done, edit the first report to recommend the 2nd report and vice versa. Do some marketing, rinse and repeat until you have a whole series of reports that all cross promote each other when applicable.

For example, if you are in the dog training market, you my write short reports on:

Train Your Dog To Stay Out Of The Bedroom

Proper Leash Walking Techniques

How To Get Your Dog To Stop Barking At The Neighbors

House Training Your Puppy

Introducing a New Dog

How To Find Pet Friendly Hotels

What To Look For In A Good Vet

I mentioned that I'm working on this myself. The first in a series of reports is something you should take a look at, especially if you are just getting into a new niche. It's about How To Find Hot And Profitable Niches In Just A Few Hours. In the report I share 5 different ways you can make sure a niche is profitable before you invest time and money in marketing and creating a product.

There you have it – Three different yet equally easy ways to create your own niche products. Pick one of them and get to work.

Susanne Myers
AffiliateTreasureChest.com

P.S. Forgot to mention – another way is to create a niche product is to find ones that other people have created that come with 100% immediate commission or resale rights. I happen to know where you can get one. When you order my Hot Profitable Niche Report , you will automatically become a reseller for 100% commission and won't have to create your own products. Just kidding (kind of) … Get to work.

Thoughts?

After reading the reviews, I noticed a few things:

People want pictures and LOTS of them in a cookbook. They also love them in an informative ebook, too, as long as they add value to the product. My newest ebook is full of pictures as you'll see soon. (Graphics add a lot of interest on blogs, too.)

If Version 1 of your product sells well, write a sequel/followup to your ebook. If I've spent money with you once, and you overdelivered — I'll spend more!

How can you apply this idea to your business? Any ideas from reading about these? Please share!

Warmly,
Nicole

Hey guys. Happy Thursday.

I debated and debated about whether or not to post this because it could easily be taken the wrong way. But, I'm hoping that it will be read in the manner that it is being written. And, it's been a revelation for me, so it may give one of you the “ah-ha” moment that you need.

One thing that a lot of us in our online business do is put off projects that are close to making money in lieu of doing other “more fun” things that grab our attention.

How many unfinished projects do you have on your hard-drive?

How many unfinished blog posts?

How many unfinished ebooks?

One of the things that I've said over and over to my coaching clients is that “UNfinished projects do not make money. You're guaranteed to make nothing until it's out there, live!”

So, one thing that I've done recently, at the inspiration of my friends Scott Tousignant & Bob “the Teacher” Jenkins is to form a small Accountability Group.

I just set it up in my Basecamp account since I'm in there all day anyway.

There are only a handful of us in there, including my mom. Just five of us at the moment. And, we have to post our daily and weekly “Health and Wealth” goals, and we challenge each other to accomplish them.

Well, last week, I posted that I would have a certain project done by 9/22 (Tuesday) and if I didn't, that I'd donate $100 to the charity of their choice. I know, $100 isn't a lot, but I'm new to this accountability thing, so I thought I'd see what happened.

Well, I didn't get it done. And, a few of the ladies were going to let me off the hook, because of … well, I had a headache and things weren't going right, and etc etc. – Yeah, life happened.

So, on Tuesday, when I didn't meet my goal, I was thinking “Well, I almost made it. I'll just be a few days late. That's close enough.” But, that didn't sit well with me, since I SAID that I'd donate the money.

That same day, I interviewed Paul Evans from Nicheology (the interview will be posted in about 10 days) and he was telling me about his organization that helps orphans around the world. And, 100% of each donation goes to the organization. Obviously I found it odd that he spoke to me about this on the same date that I was supposed to donate money to charity. Hmm… a sign perhaps?

As you can guess, I went to the ladies and said “Is this organization ok for me to choose?” They agreed that it was a great mission and that I could, in fact, give my “penalty money” to them.

Before you think that I have to have my arm twisted to give to charities, that's not at all the case. I'm happy to give of myself willingly – my time, my money, my energy, my prayers.

However, I thought it would be kind of pointless to say that if I didn't get the project done that I'd have to shave my head or run naked down the street or eat a bowl of bugs or something. I'd rather give to orphans. (And, not traumatize the neighbors by seeing me streaking down the road!)

However, I did find it motivating to have the goal in front of the ladies and to have to pay up.

So, what are the lessons here?

If you're having trouble getting a project done for your business that'll feed your family – get someone to hold you accountable. It can be a coach or a mastermind group or an accountability group. Heck, just post it on your blog.

If you don't reach your goal, pay up! Otherwise, the next time it'll be totally pointless and you'll let yourself off the hook.

Support is everything in online business. It truly is. Your network is your lifeline.

So, anyway, I just sent the money and wanted to come over here to hear your thoughts. Is there a project that's on your hard-drive that could make you money but you're too chicken (like I was) or distracted (like I was, too) to get it out there? Feel free to publicly post your goal and the penalty for not meeting it by a certain date.

Or recommend a charity for the next goal that one of us doesn't meet.

My goal each year has been to double my income, but I can't do it if I'm playing scared and small. So, this method worked for me. Also, please share some of your ideas for how else my readers (and me) might be able to get over the roadblocks that are keeping them from getting stuff done. I'd love to hear them! I'm always on the look out for better ways to tackle things. Always. I never want to stop learning, and, thankfully we have each other to learn from.

As for the project? You'll be hearing about it next week. And, if you're someone who sells ebooks or has a membership site – you'll definitely want to get on my notification list (to the right) so you don't miss it.

Thank you, again, for putting your trust in me.

Warmly,
Nicole

Recommendations for Finding People to Hold you Accountable:

One of the places that I recommend as far as a great community that will help you to achieve your goals is Lynn Terry's Elite Club.

I also highly recommend going to live events like NAMS where you can meet people in person. In fact, every person but one of the five that are in my accountability group are people that I've met. And, the one that I haven't? I'll be meeting at NAMS in January! Join us there! Come to NAMS 3!
