Gimp has proved to be a great alternative to Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop. It does almost everything that I need for my website graphics and photo editing. The setup seems very much like most popular (expensive!!) graphic programs. The one feature I would love to have is the ability to record my actions so I can apply them at the click of a button without having to repeat all the steps for each individual graphic. (Other programs allow you save common editing steps that you need to repeat on several images). This feature is helpful when making images for Zazzle.com and sidebar blog images. Gimp does include several filters, though, and this is a great plus!

I've tried Gimp but found the interface to be very complicated. I'll give it another look. Another great resource that I use is called "The Logo Creator". It's technically for creating Logos but it's also a great graphics editor and has some wonderful fonts, shading, and 3d effects, and it is super easy to use.

I knew my ears were ringing for a reason! ;)

Yeah, finding pictures and graphics is hard enough, but then making them work right was driving me nuts. I didn't understand the whole concept of the size, shape, etc. etc. etc. I must admit, I use Gimp only at its most basic level, but even that has been a lifesaver when it comes to getting a blog post finished.

Thanks Nicole for your patience with The Mom! Remember that day when you said, "Hey Mom... you should be blogging." And I said "What's blogging?" Oh boy. Poor you. :D

Hi Nicole, I use paint.net, which is also free, to edit my photos. It's much like a photoshop editor but not as sophisticated of course. I suppose GIMP is better. I'll have to check it out.

Thanks, Nicole! I'll have to check out this class. I downloaded GIMP awhile back but haven't taken the time to learn it. I've heard it's a great program, so I know a class would help. Another good tip, as always. ;o)
