Hi Nicole
I really have to put in some time management somewhere I suppose. My system is quite simple really. Once I have started I work at a fast consistent pase and as soon as I feel myself slowing down I take five and come back refreshed and keep doing this through out the day I find I get more done this way in a shorter time. But there is certainly no schedule involved making it a bit adhock. So will try and get a bit more organised and see if it makes me more productive.

Great post thanks lee

Hi Nicole,

I'm a new reader here and I'd say that I enjoyed reading this post. It's funny how I can relate to that laundry routine!
It's interesting to know how others schedule their work and it helps me to learn from it.
Thanks for the post!

This is fun so I felt like contributing - hope no one minds!

I start by walking my dog Frankie. I like to give her a good walk so I am sure to bring my iphone and I have my dropbox loaded with training vids and interviews that I listen to while I walk. I love to multitask this way!

My most productive time is the morning. When I am in the middle of writing a book, I like to write in the morning because that is when I have the most energy - but it is hard for me not to check my emails and get some customer support taken care of. I like to help people right away, especially if it has been all night since they got a response.

After I do a bulk of writing, I will start with the other tasks on my to do list.

After I finish my busy work in the morning / mid afternoon, I take a lunch break.

After my break, I will get cracking on the next big item chunk on my to do list. I still have energy as I have just taken a break and I’ve eaten!

At night, after the second dog walk (I outsource the mid afternoon walk to a dog walker) one of my favorite things to do is graphics. I will make ads, pinterest images, memes for facebook, book covers and even salesletters. Graphics are my “downtime work” and I can usually plop myself on the couch in front of the tv and also be productive! This is actually fun for me. Another downtime work part of my day is connecting with people on social media.

I do have busier days when i have skype calls and videos to make and edit. But, every day is a new adventure.

The BEST thing about working for yourself ... opportunity to work a flexible schedule.
The WORST thing about working for yourself ... opportunity to work a flexible a schedule.

It's inspiring to see what works (or doesn't) for others, plus validating because I'm reminded I don't need to follow someone else's "expected" or "what works best for them." Finding what works best for me, IS what's BEST for me.

Love the Expert's Q & A posts, Nicole. Keep 'em coming!

I see one big thing in common with all of us - we all love and need variety! This was an extra fun and informative post!

I will say I'm at the end of Week 2 of my new schedule. I've been more productive this past two weeks than the entire month of January! More than just keeping my head above water, I'm knocking off months-old tasks from my to-do list, more highly focused to release new projects (like my first ever niche eBook/cookbook last weekend!) & still have time to relax in the evenings with a little Netflix. And now that my body's finally getting used to the time change I'm not sleeping as much. :)

It's so fun to look at how successful people schedule the day. It's all about the freedom of being your own boss, you have to make yourself be accountable. When we had the cricket business, I had a set things I did everyday and every week. If I didn't, those little bugs died.

Now that we are retired and I sell on eBay, I use the same sort of schedule each day. If your not working for your business, your not making money. Simple, but hard sometimes.
