Hi Nicole

Just my observations. I have been on Pinterest for a while. My ultimate purpose is to get more business. However, I also like creating new boards and pinning.

Following: I don't follow anyone who has far more people following them than they follow. That tells me they aren't interested in you. I will follow anyone back if they follow me as long as it looks like they are interested piners.

Boards: One thing I don't like is when someone sets up multiple boards and none of them have more than a few pins. I won't follow them even if they follow me. As far as I am concerned, you should set up one board at a time and put at least 5 or 6 pins on it so you at least fill the board window that you see. You should then constantly trickle to each board every day until you have at least 20 to 25 pins on it. Some of my boards have over 200 pins, all unique.

Repining: I will follow any one who re-pins me as long as they look interesting. Right now I follow 3 times as many people who are following me. It's all about numbers. The more people you follow the more you will get following back. Also, when you click that red pinterest button, what you see is pins from all the people you follow. That's a great source for people you might want to re-pin. I know that people sit and watch that board because I have had re-pins almost before I am done with the Pin.

As far as re-pining, to much isn't a good thing. If all anyone did was re-pin you would see the same stuff over and over. Occasional re-pining is ok but it is far better to pin your own content. Liking is a good way to get peoples attention. Just make sure you set your email so you get notification when some one likes or re-pins you.
I have had people re-pin 15 of my pins in one go. This is a bad practice. It tells me that they aren't pining their own stuff. They are filling their boards with other peoples stuff.

Another good source of people to follow is to look at the people following someone you like. These people could have the same interest's as you. Just click the following link and you will see all of their followers. Each one has a follow button. You can follow from there if they look interesting or you can click on their name to take you to their boards and you can decide from there.

That's enough from me :)

Hey, Nicole

I've been recently thinking about the possibilies of Pinterest and this post fitted with what I was thinking.

Pinterest is excellent for making people aware and even making sales for products.
If you have a business or website that is heavily geared then this place is a godsend.

However only interesting things get repinned so, ideally you need interesting images that are unique to gain some nice exposure.

Is anyone currently using Pinterest as a source of income? or just more exposure to your brand.

Hey Nicole, since you asked for input on this post, I've actually noticed that some of my boards are ranking well for decent keyword phrases. It wasn't intentional, but a cool effect and possibly an indication of the value Google thinks pin boards might have. I happened to notice when some older boards I'd created were suddenly getting followers that went to those specific boards and I checked those phrases. Kind of cool. They were usually phrases people would search if they were looking for ideas on a specific topic, brainstorming type stuff.

Even though I am NOT in the best demographic for Pinterest, I've gotten quite a few repins, especially for the wine bottle re-uses. ;)

I figure even if my age group isn't a big demographic, the more people who repin, the more chances somebody my age will eventually see it. I think having a wide range of pinterest interests helps.

The thing I don't like is it's not easy to pin from Facebook. I figured out how to do it (with help from my friends, of course) BUT... the FB image link shows up on Pinterest, so I go in and edit it to the website or person's FB page or whatever. Maybe there's an easier way but I haven't learned it yet.

Thanks Nik and Experts for the info!
