I DoFollow You!
in Advertising & Blogging & Web Traffic by Administrator on 07 Nov 2007
Hi there :) If you're new to my blog I want to welcome you and invite you to subscribe to my RSS feed. - Nicole Dean
I *finally* installed the DoFollow plugin for this blog. It’s been something I’ve been wanting to do for awhile and I’m happy to report. It is done.
–> For those that know what I’m talking about, get commenting!
–> For those that have no idea, keep reading and I’ll catch you up.
Commenting on blogs can be a great way to get more search engine traffic, network with others, and build your business, in general, if it’s done right.
However, there are a few tricks involved.
First of all, your comments have to be valuable and helpful, not self-serving ads.
Secondly, not all blogs count! You have to find blogs that let search engines “follow” your comments. (This one now does.)
So, how do you know the difference? Here are a few blogs that “dofollow” you.
- www.NicoleOntheNet.com - This blog.
- www.WhatCanIMakeWithIt.com - a great, interactive food blog. (I used to own it and sold it just yesterday to a friend.)
- http://www.wahmtalkradio.com/blog - Kelly’s Blog
- http://www.onemomsworld.com - My friend, Jen’s blog.
How did I find those blogs? With the help of this new tool that my friend, Susanne, found. It’ll allow you to search and find blogs in your niche to comment on.
Common Sense Rules When Commenting:
- DO NOT POST ADS.
If it looks like an ad, contains a link inside the comment itself, or reads like an ad, you’ll be blocked. - Your comments must be valuable (not just “hey, nice blog”).
Spend some time contributing your thoughts or you’ll be blocked as a spammer. This is a GREAT chance to get to know others in your field. - Do not include your URL/Link inside your comments.
You’ll have to chance to enter your website when you enter your name and email address. (There is a field that asks for your URL.) Keep URLs out of the comment itself or you may get deleted by annoyed blog owners (including me). - Have fun!
Now get commenting.
I look forward to getting to know you better.
Warmly,
Nicole

Wow, ok. I had no clue. Boy do I feel dumb. I’ll have to break open my piggy bank and get that program. No wonder I haven’t gotten much traffic. Thanks for the tip Nicole.

Wonderful blog! So happy I stopped by to visit through your email to me. I have a LONG list of folks who are “Do Follow” bloggers at my blog, I think you’ll get to it by clicking on my name
The link is in the right column.
Happy blogging…I’m going to go “snoop” around some more.

OOOPS, my url had a comma in it instead of a period, so you probably coulDn’t reach my site by clicking on my name…sorry to post again so quickly, but wanted to try and fix that

Good for you Nicole. Not sure what Nan means as since I’m reasonably sure that “Do Follow” is available through Wordpress at no cost.

Great tips! I actually just moved my blog from Blogger to Word Press today. The DoFollow plug in is at the top of my to do list…right after my deadline stuff.

It’s about time! LOL!
Question: How do you feel about using your keywords as your name when leaving a comment. (Like I have done here.) I know it’s good for SEO, but what’s your opinion on the use of it in blog comments?

It worked! It worked!
I was hoping I’d get more comments when I added “dofollow”. Yay!!!
Nan - The dofollow tag is free. I think I confused you talking about the software in my post. The software I mentioned is to FIND blogs that have “dofollow” enabled, not to make yours that way. The “dofollow” plugin is free. If you don’t know how to install it yourself, you shouldn’t have to pay more than $10 to have someone turn it on for you. (It’s really quick and painless.) Jen http://www.internetmarketingchic.com/ can do it or KC http://websitesolutions.connectingrainbows.com/ can.
Robert - You’re correct and I should have linked to it above. Here’s the dofollow plug-in:
http://kimmo.suominen.com/sw/dofollow/
Shannon - Good for you!
Go girl!
KC - My opinion? I don’t normally do it. I sometimes will use “Nicole Dean - (insert SEO term here)” when I leave comments, like “Nicole Dean, Affiliate Manager” or “Nicole Dean, Work at Home Mom” or something like that, but you know me… I’m a stickler for relationship building over anything.
However, your Home Fitness site isn’t something you’re currently building to promote your name or to build you as an expert (although maybe it should be…) so that’s a little different.
Some blogs do not allow your URL text to be anything but a name, though, so watch if you’re doing it to see if your comments are disappearing.
I guess, if I used SEO keyword phrases in my link text, I’d sign my whole name under the comment. Of course, you don’t have to sign your whole name on mine, since you’re my bud and I know you, but it would also be nice for name recognition from others. Like if someone sees your name enough times, they may see you listed at http://www.LadyPens.com and check out your articles because of that.
Kind of like political campaigns. It’s, unfortunately, the guy with the most signs by the side of the road who gets elected in city elections — because he’s the name that’s recognized.
Thanks, again, everyone, for your comments! Keep them coming.

This is such great information. I have been working on creating my site and business with a shoe string budget. Now that I’ve got a fabulous product and a good website up, I’m searching for every inexpensive (read _free_) means of traffic I can get. I really appreciate this tip, Nicole. I’m going to be hanging around here quite a bit more!

I gotta move my blog! Blogger doesn’t have a plug-in that I know of for this. And i want to follow!
November 9th, 2007 at 11:31 am
Cara, there is an easy way to remove the no follow from Blogger blogs. Here’s how I did it from one of mine:
(dofollow for blogger blogs)
Very easy to do.
Nicole thanks for the info about the new tool. That indeed will save tons of time. Very much worth the little bit of $.

Sherry’s right on about Blogger. Thanks for the tutorial. (Long time, no see, my friend.)
And, Mary, have you taken my free http://WebTrafficBasics.com course yet? It’s got some more good ideas in there, too.
Thank you, everyone, for your wonderful comments!

Hey Nicole, Great info as usual. I am still working on getting comments. This tool should help.

Thanks for the tip Nicole!

This is just what I’ve been looking for. I’m so happy I found your site — for sure I will have a look around because it seems like there are a ton of valuable tips and resources here.
Some of my sites have php on them, so I should be able to put the script on one of them and start using it for my niches and — gosh, I can think of so many great reasons to use it.
The timing is good for me too because I’m about to move my blogger blogs to my own sites and use WP instead — kind of a scary venture into the unknown — but how hard can it be? I already know how to use blogger and WP is supposed to give me more control, right?
Sorry for running on so long — but I am almost ecstatic to find you and this information!
Please keep up the good work.
Oh in case you want to know, I found you through a twitter post. . .
November 10th, 2007 at 12:59 pm
“link love” hehe.. cute.
I have the do-follow plugin on all my site. Keep up the good work.
November 10th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
ok I have been hearing about this for some time. So I need to now go and take care of this.
Thanks Nicole!

Thank You for the information Nicole I will do this on my blog. I didn’t know any of this until I got your email.
Thank You Again,
Rosalie

Hi guys!
Nancy, you only need the script for WordPress blogs. No worries on your other websites, as they should be fine. Wordpress just has a piece of code they added to all their blogs by default to “nofollow” comments. I believe it was initially added to slow down spammers from posting. However, now there are so many scripts to slow spammers that I figure having an active blog is worth dealing with having to to manually delete an occasional spam post, don’t you?
And, WELCOME to my blog. I look forward to seeing you around here lots and lots!
Thanks to all who have posted their thoughts and kind words. It means the world to me to know that you are reading and I’m not talking to myself!

Thank you for sharing! Is there a way to tell what ones have this? I never knew this before never even though of my blog comments as a way to get links. I just only posted if I had something to say. Anyway thanks for sharing!
November 16th, 2007 at 11:04 am
Hi Jennifer.
You sure can tell. If you’re on a blog and want to know, go to a page where there have been comments and right click and select “view source” OR go to your toolbar on the top of your computer screen and click “view” and then “view source”.
If you see this –> rel=’external nofollow’ <– near the links in the comments, that means that they do NOT follow your links.
Hope that helps!

[...] Stuff I run into while I’m researching. For instance, yesterday, I was setting up a mailing for one of my clients and I was making a “dofollow” list of a bunch of blogs. During that time, I ran into a contest that I thought was fun, so I blogged about it. [...]

Nicole,
Thank you so much for the e-mail. How complicated is it to install the program that finds blogs ? It is extremely affordable but I am no installer.

Hi Jen,
the script is very easy to install. Here are the installation instructions so you can judge for yourself…
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Upload “find-blogs.php” to your web host which supports PHP.
2. Access the file on your web host through a browser.
To elaborate, you just upload the php file to your web server just like you would upload any other file. Then you just open your web browser and go to http://www.Yourwebsite.com/find-blogs.php to use it.
I think it literally took me 2 minutes to get this up and running (and most of that time was spent looking for my logins to upload files to me site
)

Nicole- this is great info. Also the comments left have been good ones. I love the U comment I follow graphics that Robin shared with us but couldn’t find the list of blogs that follow that Claudia provided.
